Goodbye Mc D's :(

What is with this title you ask? Well, i recently came across some No Impact Man paraphernalia (see noimpactproject.org for some cool ideas of how you can reduce your impact on the environment as well as your conscience and wallet) and was inspired.  Thursday April 22 was Earth Day and in honor of it, I decided to take eat my (hopefully) very last chicken mcnuggets and sweet and sour sauce-- no more fast food!  I LOVE chicken mcnuggets and have been eating the last drop of sweet and sour sauce out of the plastic packet since I was a little girl.  This is a BIG change for me!!  I wonder if i can do it, for real for real.  I want to try and be a healthier, smarter consumer.  And oh, the video was something I found. when did these kind of commercials come out???? as a mcnugget fan i found it amusing, but now that i gave it up...
And I also started the no impact challenge where for each day of one week you take up a certain issue such as consumption, trash, food or water and do some things that make you think about your everyday lifestyle choices.  I started off with consumption and so am collecting all my trash for one week.  After one day, what did it look like?  Well, for starters I ate out twice and so had to take the wrappers and containers from that-- one was recyclable and the McDonald's was not.  A few napkins were also in the mix. Lesson learned from one day of looking at my consumption and trash?  Don't eat out!  Or if you do, take your own containers and utensils.  It may be hard but with a little planning ahead, packing, and asking to use your own stuff (may be awkward sometimes), I could cut my consumption down significantly.   Think about all the trash you accumulate in one day!  How can you cut down your consumption and the amount of trash you build up?

  1. That's an excellent point. We use so many resources every day, it's really quite ridiculous, and obviously wasteful. Sometimes, I wish I just lived in the wilderness and hunted rabbits for food, but then I remember that I really like flush toilets and hot showers. I know, I'm weak.
