At the end of my Earth Week

So after a week of being more aware of my consumption, habits, and eco-friendliness here's some lessons learned:
  • NOT consuming is difficult, but possible with planning: There's lots of things we consume in 10 minutes and then throw away!  After one week of saving my trash I have 8 candy wrappers (lol!) 2 paper plates, 3 containers/sets of rubbish from 3 times eating out, bunch of random plastic bags/wrappers.  If I avoid eating out, or eat at a sit down restaurant or take my own plates and silverware I could save a lot of trash.  And if i stopped eating or buying individually wrapped yumminess that would help too :)
  • Choosing to ride the bus to work is a big step in the right direction.  But I could cut down on the Hauula to Laie drives and walk instead.
  • You gotta look hard for the local food, but i want to try and support local businesses and farms
  • Your greeness depends on how much of your preferences and cant-live-withouts you want to forego- like I come home and use my computer (like now) for entertainment but I liked the challenge to explore no-energy alternatives to accomplish my daily tasks.  I'm working on it...
  • I kinda want to be vegetarian, not because I'm against meat but because I'm against the way it is produced and how much energy it takes to do so.  If i can find local, humanely produced meat, I'm down.  Making that kind of transition however is difficult when living with my parents.  I cant just eat what get anymore... Im adventuring tho!  made veggie lasagna mmmm so good!
Anybody else been thinking about their impact and habits, have advice or have had similar wonderings lemme know!  till next time, peace ^^

  1. Umi, oh my. haha. You are amazing. I have never really thought about how much I personally consume, and so I kind of kept mental tabs after reading these last couple of posts. DANG. Vaughn and I need to work on that, definitely!
